2022.10.23 Happy Halloween! Best Ghost Song / Murder Ballad Ever Written!

10.23.2022 They say every songwriter should have a train song and a ghost/murder ballad in their quiver of works penned. I’ve got neither. But I did make a super-cool old-timey-movie haunted-vibe-video for your Halloween trick-or-treat season delights, complete with unplanned and unexpected spooky noises and howling gusts of wind! Flashing back to this moment putting my spin on “Long Black Veil” written by Danny Dill & Marijohn Wilkin and first released in 1959 by Lefty Frizzell. But the version I fell in love with is the one Rosanne Cash and her husband John Leventhal bring to life on her 2009 album The List — the real list actually exists as a handwritten note of 100 of the greatest songs ever written, jotted down and given to Rosanne Cash by her father, Johnny Cash, when Rosanne was a teenager; the album list is a stunningly beautiful selection and arrangement, by Rosanne Cash & John Leventhal, of about a dozen of those timeless classics — but whether you favor Lefty’s original, The Man In Black’s version, Rosanne Cash’s or even Dave Matthews Band’s spin, there’s no doubt that “Long Black Veil” remains one of the greatest ghost/murder ballads ever written

What’s your favorite train song or ghosty murder ballad or scary movie? {confession: I don’t like feeling scared…so I don’t do scary movies} I look forward to hearing all about your favorite tunes and flicks. And in the meantime, wherever this moment finds you, however you celebrate this festive season of autumn, I hope you and your loved ones have a safe and happy remainder of October and Happy All Hallows Eve!

{p.s. note to self…write a train song and a ghosty murder ballad before the earth makes another revolution around the sun}
