05.26.2023 How it started & How it’s going: For those who may wonder if music heals, I’m here to tell ya it’s absolutely true. This is my sweet friend Don MacAngus. Ten years back, we started playing ‘round our kitchen tables. Don had recently lost his wife of 55 years; my husband and I had recently lost our second baby. Those days were among the darkest each of us had ever known. But singing songs knees-up ‘round kitchen tables eventually led to playing open mics ‘round town, which eventually led to playing small gigs at quaint venues, which eventually led to me writing the book and album I'm near completing, and producing Girls With Guitars in-the-row shows empowering Women Singer-Songwriters; all of which over time helped dear Don, and me, to heal and to find our smiles and joy, once again. Last month I saw my sweet friend for the first time since before the whole world turned upside-down. It had been nearly four years. But there we were, still knees-up ‘round a table, still smiling, still sharing stories and songs. Don will be turning 85 in November, and I’ll be turning 55…and between then and now…I think we need to dust off our Martins and re-do “Good Old Mountain Dew” together. I’ll keep ya posted.
